Michael Axelsson – lyric tenor

Michael Axelsson from Värmdö in the Stockholms archipelago was educated at the University College of Opera and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. His repertoire spans opera roles like Tamino in the Magic Flute and Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, aswell as oratory pieces like Mozart Requiem, Händel Messiah and Britten Saint Nicolas or early music pieces like Vespro della Beata Vergine by Monteverdi or Charpentiers Le reniement de Saint-Pierre. One of his specialities is singing the Evangelist part in the passions by Bach. Michael is also active in the field of chamber music, working for example with swedish art songs.


This spring Michael will be singing Haydns Die sieben letzten Worte unseres Erlösers am Kreuze, Bach St. Johns Passion in Göteborg and Stockholm, and Bach Easter Oratorio. The newly started Barockkompaniet STHLM, were Michael is one of the initiators, have their premiere concert with a program from the time of the Sun King, Louis XIV, with Michael as Haute-contre. With Eric Ericson Chamber Choir, were he is a permanent member since Autumn 2018, Michael sings several concerts also as Haute-contre soloist in one, featuring André Campras Requiem at the Stockholm Concert Hall. This summer Michael sings Ernesto in Donizettis Don Pasquale at Smålandsoperan.
